Hugo Caesar Tassi built Verania for the Iulia edit — a column dress that trades softness for structure.
A square halter neckline frames the collarbone, fastened with a slim studded-leather strap that crosses the top of the bust and ties behind the neck. The bodice is fitted and clean to a short hip tier, where a matching studded belt marks the low waist.
Below, the skirt drops in fine, sharp pleats to a long, softly raw hem, split at the front for movement. In deep Basalt charcoal it reads tailored and quietly tough — restraint with a hard edge.

The cloth is a dry, matte charcoal crepe with enough body to keep the bodice sculpted and the pleats crisp. The raw-cut hem is intentional — a little unfinished against the precision above.
It wants nothing more than fine gold jewellery and a confident walk; the studded leather does the rest.
What she said after wearing it
The little studded belt is what sold me, and it's even better in person. Slim, a touch tough against all that soft pleating. The Basalt is a proper deep charcoal-black, and the column skims rather than clings. I felt collected and sharp at a gallery opening.
Walking in this is the whole point. The fine pleats ripple with every step and the front slit lets your leg through without showing off. Quietly brilliant.
Genuinely lovely: the pleated column has real swing, the Basalt is a gorgeous smoky black and the studded belt gives it bite. I'm on the petite side, so the hem pooled a little at my heels. A quick turn-up at the tailor and it sits exactly where it should. Nothing wrong with the dress at all, just my own short legs.
I'm broad across the shoulders and halters usually defeat me, but the square bodice sits clean and high and frames the collarbone beautifully. No gaping, no fiddling.
Wore it to a long anniversary dinner, three courses and dancing after, and the crepe never creased or sagged at the waist. By the time we left it looked as composed as when we arrived.

Basalt reads almost ink-black indoors but in afternoon light there's a smoky grey depth to it. Not a flat black at all, which is exactly why it looks expensive.
Everything about it is low-key on purpose. The column is slim without being tight, the slit is modest, the belt does the talking. Sophisticated dressing for a woman who doesn't want to perform.
The hand of this crepe is matte and dense, with real weight to it so the pleats hang straight down instead of fluttering about. Substantial in the way good tailoring should be.

Every picture from the evening came out clean and architectural. The vertical pleats lengthen the whole frame and the matte crepe doesn't catch a single harsh flash. I look taller and calmer than I felt.
Size L here, and the column genuinely holds you without squeezing. It nips at the belt then falls straight, so it grazes the bits I'm shy about. I've never felt so at ease in a fitted dress.
