What's the occasion?

A Hugo Caesar Tassi model in the deep-wine Porpora pleated evening gown, photographed in a Roman travertine studio
The Philosophy

The oldest ideas about how a powerful woman dresses are still the best ones.

Hugo Caesar Tassi draws straight from imperial Rome — the fluted column of the stola, the engineered drape of the toga, and the Tyrian reds once reserved for emperors. Not as costume, but as a grammar of dress: a vertical line, a defined waist, restraint in detail, and depth in color.

Every piece is fully lined, finished by hand and cut from recycled fabric in our Roma atelier — built to be kept, and returned to, season after season.

What We Make, and What It's Made Of

Occasion dresses, leather and silk — cut in Roma since 2004 from cloth chosen for how it moves. Every gown is fully lined, French-finished and finished by hand, in recycled fabric wherever the weave allows.

  • Pleated Chiffon

Weightless recycled chiffon, knife-pleated and fully lined so it stays opaque — it floats for daytime and high summer.

    Chiffon dressesWhat chiffon is
  • Bias-Cut Satin

Fluid recycled satin with a candle-lit sheen, cut on the bias so it pours diagonally along the figure for evening.

    Satin dressesWhy satin pours
  • Knife-Pleated Crepe

Structured matte crepe that scatters light, shrugs off creasing and holds a clean, sculptural column.

    Crepe dressesWhy crepe sculpts
  • Fluid Jersey

Heavyweight recycled modal-blend jersey with a gentle stretch that drapes like liquid — the Grecian goddess line.

    Maxi gownsThe goddess gown
  • Linen & Tencel

Pure linen and Tencel-linen weave, matte and breathing, honest in its creasing — cut loose for Italian summer.

    Day dressesItalian summer style
  • Full-Grain Leather

Genuine full- and top-grain cowhide with a natural pebbled grain, finished to soften and patina, not to replace.

    Leather bagsCaring for leather
  • Hand-Rolled Silk

Hand-rolled, hand-stitched square scarves with a light-catching sheen — knotted at the neck, wrist or bag a hundred ways.

    Silk scarvesCaring for silk
  • Sculptural Knit

Fine-gauge ribbed knits in considered fibres that skim and hold like tailoring, rather than cling.

The Imperial Palette

Colour, drawn from Rome

Twelve house colours taken from fresco and stone — anchored on Porpora, the Tyrian wine the murex dye once made costlier than gold and Roman law reserved for emperors. Tuned to the true oxblood the ancients wore, not the lilac the modern eye expects.
