The body is held to a crisp trapezoidal line, polished croc-embossed leather catching the light in long, even glazes. Twin rolled handles sit high for an easy hand-carry, while a front strap draws across the body to a single round silver turn-lock — the one piece of hardware, and all the closure it needs.
A slim detachable strap clips to the side rings when the day turns to crossing lawns and you want both hands free; protective metal feet keep the base off the grass. It is quietly Roman in the truest sense — nothing logo'd, everything considered.

The polished silver turn-lock clicks shut with the most satisfying little snap, and it has held firm through a month of daily use. Structured enough to stand on its own on the cafe table, yet the croc-embossed grain keeps it from looking stiff. A small bag punching well above its weight.
I worried the Basalt might read flat, but out in proper daylight it shifts between charcoal and near-black with the high-shine catching the light along every embossed scale. Genuinely lovely to look at.
The satchel itself is faultless, the croc embossing has real depth and the silver turn-lock shuts with a lovely click. My only tiny wish is purely selfish: I'd have happily agonised over a second or third shade. The Basalt is gorgeous, but I'd have loved a tan or a deep burgundy to choose between. No fault of the bag at all, which I adore.

The croc embossing is deep and crisp, not the shallow pressed kind you see on cheaper bags. Run a finger over it and you feel every ridge. For just over three hundred dollars this is a serious bit of craft.
