That gold buckle
The little square buckle is solid metal, not flimsy plate, and the warm tan leather has that proper full-grain pull to it. Done up on the T-bar, my foot stays put with no slipping at the heel. A small, perfect thing.
A French-retro Mary-Jane
Hugo Caesar Tassi drew Lucilla for the Iulia collection — a T-bar Mary-Jane that pairs schoolgirl charm with a grown-up block heel.
The upper is cut from smooth full-grain leather over a rounded closed toe, with a slim T-strap that rises from the vamp to an ankle strap fastened by a single polished gold square buckle. The cut is clean and the proportions are quietly retro.
Underneath, a chunky stacked block heel and a rounded platform sole give the shoe its easy stance — height without strain, so it carries from morning to evening.
Leather, gold and a confident heel
Full-grain leather and a warm gold buckle, finished with a tan leather lining and a hard-wearing rubber sole.
The hide reads rich and warm in low afternoon light and softens with wear, while the tan leather lining shows at the open sides of the vamp. The single gold buckle is the only ornament the shoe needs.
Lucilla comes in Cuoio, the deep saddle-brown the leather is cut from, and in Basalt black for a sharper, more graphic foot.
